Cancer survivors attend Dance of Champions at Ware High School

Hampshire County

WARE, Mass. (WWLP) – Ware High School hosted the third-annual Dance of Champions Friday night.

The annual dance is held for cancer survivors, and their friends, family, and caregivers. The event is hosted by the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center.

Friday night’s theme was “Let’s Go to the Hop” which featured 50’s music, food, and corsages made by the students.

One cancer survivor said Friday night’s event is really meaningful and gives survivors the strength to fight.

“Because on really bad days we could think that nobody cares and nobody knows,” said LuWanda Cheney of Palmer. “So when they do something like that, we know that they do care and we’re not alone.”

The Ware High School student-led event takes place one week before the 14th Annual Walk of Champions; a benefit for the Baystate Regional Cancer program.
