NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A serious two-car crash on Rocky Hill Road in Northampton sent a police officer and a driver to the hospital Saturday night.
According to the Northampton Police Department, at around 11:27 p.m., an officer was driving west on Rocky Hill Rd when he observed a car heading eastbound towards him at a high speed.
The officer was able to record the vehicle’s speed on radar, going over 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.
As the car got closer, it crossed the double yellow lines entering his lane and striking the officer’s car as he attempted to avoid the collision. The officer, who suffered a broken leg in the crash, was able to cut himself out of his seatbelt, and climb out of the driver’s side window to help the occupant of the other vehicle, a woman.
Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. Both the officer and woman were rushed to Baystate Medical Center for treatment.
According to the Northampton Police Department, a criminal complaint was issued out of the Northampton District Court against Maleaha Aquadro, 25, of Florence for charges of reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and civil infractions of speeding, as well as marked lanes violation, and a seatbelt violation.
