Easthampton woman facing charges in connection with deadly accident

An Easthampton woman is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges in connection with a deadly pedestrian accident on Cottage Street December 3, 2018.

The Northwestern DA’s Office said 62-year-old Ruby Schmid will be arraigned on charges including negligent motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and civil crosswalk infraction. 

Woman in critical condition after being hit by car on Cottage St. in Easthampton

On Dec. 3, Easthampton Police were called to a pedestrian accident on Cottage Street that took the life of 63-year-old Denise Herzog of Easthampton. 

Investigators determined that Herzog was walking across Cottage St., in a marked crosswalk, when she was struck by a vehicle Schmid was driving. Herzog died from the injuries she suffered in the accident the following day. 

Schmid could spend up to two and a half years in prison if convicted of the charges she faces. That conviction also carries a 15-year loss of license.
