Event in Northampton discusses solutions for local school districts needing more funding

Hampshire County

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – School districts in Franklin, Hampshire, and Berkshire County are looking for more funding.

The Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton addressed education leadership Thursday night.

State Senator Jo Comerford (D-Northampton) and State Representative Natalie Blais (D-Sunderland) took part in the discussion.

One common problem outlined was the decreasing enrollment amid increased competition.

“It’s a combination of factors that are making it increasingly hard for our districts to provide the kind of excellent education that they can,” said William Diehl, executive director of Collaborative for Educational Services in Northampton.

Diehl said Thursday night’s meeting hopes to find solutions to restore programs, increase funding and strengthen school districts in western Massachusetts.
