There are concerns about how the wet weather will impact New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Northampton residents aren’t happy about the rain in the forecast, but as of now everything for First Night is still on as planned.
First Night is one of the biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations in western Massachusetts.
The streets of downtown Northampton will be transformed once again Monday night into a giant block party to ring in 2019.
First Night festivities include many musical performances by local artists, the traditional ball rising at Hotel Northampton at midnight, and of course the fireworks.
Those traditional First Night fireworks will be launched from the rooftop of the downtown parking garage at 6:15 p.m.
If you’re wondering where to park for First Night, you can park for free on the street, at the Smith College parking lots, the Forbes Library, the Northampton Senior Center, and the World War II Club.
If you park at the downtown parking garage, it will cost you 50 cents an hour, but the first hour is free.
There will also be a Free PVTA shuttle van that will take you around downtown free of charge from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Once you find that parking spot, you will need to pick up a First Night button, which will provide you admission to all First Night events.
Northampton isn’t the only western Massachusetts community with a first night celebration tonight.
Wilbraham, Holyoke, and Westfield will all hold family friendly first night celebrations, but they will wrap up well before midnight.
