Fines for illegal hunting in Massachusetts

Hampshire County

Illegal hunting continues to be a serious problem in Massachusetts.

Hunting can be a fun activity, but if not done properly, it can cause many problems.

Illegal hunting jeopardizes the livelihood of people and businesses that rely on a thriving ecosystem.
Massachusetts only has 110 Environmental police officers to cover wildlife law enforcement for the commonwealth, which is a low number relatively speaking.

Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton and Northampton has hundreds of acres that protect wildlife. It is illegal to hunt on the property.

Most recently, 22News received a viewer email from someone who reported a dead deer on the property.  Arcadia management was made aware, but they are not sure if it was from illegal hunting.

In any case, if you are caught poaching, you could be fined up to $10,000 and jail time.
