Florence elementary school students kick off first day in a different way

Hampshire County

A Florence elementary school celebrated the first day of school on Thursday.

No homework or exams have been given out just yet, it was all about fun and optimism for the new year at RK Finn Ryan Road Elementary School in Florence.

Hundreds of students from grades 1-5 gathered to share their goals for the new year.

The students gathered outside and formed a circle and blew bubbles as a way to kick off the school year.

The celebration also focused on the 5th graders who Principal Sarah Madden calls the leaders of the school.

“It’s a good way to start on a positive note to think about your challenges and successes and what you want for this year,” Principal Madden told 22News.

The celebration also recognized the new students at Ryan Road Elementary as well.
