Granby to discuss public school’s budget at Wednesday meeting

Hampshire County

Granby Public Schools may be forced to cut jobs and programs, due to a budget deficit.

Curently the school committee is working to figure out how to balance their budget.

The School Committee is also requesting nearly $9,000,000, for the upcoming 2019 fiscal year.

If the committee can’t secure those funds they could be forced to cut staff members, and certain school programs.

Two high school teaching positions, the music department, and the junior varsity sports program are all at risk of being eliminated if the school committee doesn’t find a way to get additional funding.

The town faced a similar problem in 2016, when Granby Junior, Senior High School had to lay off teachers and make budget cuts at multiple departments in their school.

The town will meet tonight to brainstorm ways to get additional funding.

That meeting will take place at Granby Junior, Senior High School at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
