Grocery stores have been pretty busy with people getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

River Valley Co-op in Northampton said they hired a police officer to direct traffic outside the store on North King Street whenever they can during the holidays because they get so busy.

They also station staff members outside to direct cars to parking spots.

Customers were able to place advance orders for Thanksgiving turkeys, and have them ready for pickup out front.

“I’m going to visit family in New York, Looking forward to that, I’m running a little bit late. People are grabbing everything. I grabbed popcorn, I think the spirit in there is very positive,” said Alvin Whaley of Amherst.

With most stores in Massachusetts closed on Thursday, customers said Tuesday and Wednesday will be big shopping days.
