More restaurants are making the move to stop using plastic straws.
Some restaurants in Northampton are joining Ocean Conservancy’s ‘Skip the Straw’ campaign.
The organization says straws are among the top ten items collected every year during their coastal cleanup.
MGM Springfield also doesn’t offer plastic straws at their casino, and Starbucks has pledged to eliminate plastic straws in their stores by 2020.
One Amherst resident said she’s been seeing more restaurants skipping plastic straws.
“I’ve noticed the past couple of months,” said Giannamarie Dobson of Amherst. “I’m not super surprised because everyone is obsessed with the environment.”
Some restaurants, like Noodles in Northampton, have made the shift to having straws upon request, but not automatically using them for every customer.
