Man airlifted to hospital after snowmobile runs into grounded helicopter in Worthington

A snowmobile crashed into an army helicopter Tuesday night in the hilltown of Worthington. 

The helicopter was still at the site of the crash Wednesday morning after a snowmobile ran into it, sending the 44-year-old man who was driving the snowmobile to the hospital in Life Star helicopter. 

The crash happened in the Hampshire County hilltown of Worthington at the Albert farms airstrip on Huntington Road around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. 

EMTs had to carry the driver through the snow to be airlifted to the hospital. 

Our 22News crew could see visible damage on the back of the chopper and snowmobile tracks can be seen in the snow leading up to where the helicopter still sits. 

One Worthington man told 22News this airstrip is used by snowmobilers any time there‚Äôs snow on the ground. 

No word on what led up to the crash or the condition of the victim. Environmental Police are investigating the accident.
