Newly-elected women legislators discuss gender representation at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - UMass Amherst presented Women Leading Western Mass. Monday night.

Newly-elected legislators, State Senator Jo Comerford, and Representatives Natalie Blais, Lindsay Sabadosa and Mindy Domb all spoke at the event.

The newly elected leaders talked about gender representation in government. Executive Director of UMass Women into Leadership, Michelle Goncalves told 22News, she hopes the event inspires future leaders to commit to public service.

"Having events like this is an opportunity for them to connect with more students, with more members of the public," said Goncalves. "So that they can encourage them to run for office, be involved in the statehouse and politics and really make a change with the things they care about."

The legislators also talked about their goals and priorities for their terms in office.
