The Easter holiday weekend could put a big dent in your household budget.
Sweeties Fine Chocolate in Northampton told 22News, they expect to double their sales this weekend.
Easter is the second best-selling candy holiday in America, after Halloween.
“I think the chocolate bunny is like, the ‘Easter Symbol’ in so many ways, in terms of food, you know,” said Jane Tavares of Northampton. “It’s like the one thing that sticks out, the chocolate bunny.”
The National Retail Federation expects Easter spending to total $18.2 billion this year; pretty close to the record.
A chocolate assortment from ‘Sweeties’ will cost you about $33 and according to the National Retail Federation, 81 percent of Americans plan on spending about $150 per person, this holiday weekend.
That’s down from last year’s record of $152.
Sweeties Fine Chocolate told 22News their candy shop has seen a 50 percent increase in business.
“Many of our best items have already disappeared off the shelves,” said Bud Stockwell. “The real cute things. It’s been our best season that we’ve had, for Easter, in five years, I would say.”
Heavenly Chocolate in Thornes Marketplace told 22News, an uptick in Easter seasonal sales started there nearly three weeks ago.
