Northampton PD: Car crashes into building after driver falls asleep at wheel

Hampshire County

NORTHAMPTON, Mass (WWLP) – The porch of a building in Northampton was damaged Tuesday night after a driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into it.

According to Northampton Police Chief Jody Kasper, at 10:35 p.m. officers were called to the area of 120 King Street where the car had crashed into the front porch of a building.

Kasper said the car had been traveling North on King Street and drifted into the southbound lane when it hit a car traveling south. The driver allegedly continued traveling in the opposite lane, went over the curb, and hit the porch.

No one was injured, but there was significant damage to the porch and both cars were also damaged.

Kasper said the driver told police he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
