NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A suspect has been arrested following a bank robbery in Northampton Thursday morning.
According to Northampton Police Department, the People’s United Bank at 43 King Street reported a bank robbery to the police around 11:23 a.m. When officers arrived, the suspect had already left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police officers checked surveillance cameras from nearby businesses where they discovered the suspect entering a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck in a nearby parking lot and driving away.
Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Dave Procopio told 22News, the description of the pickup truck was shared to local police departments when at around 12:30 p.m., Trooper John Olari, assigned to the State Police-Shelburne Falls Barracks, located the truck outside a residence on Heath Stage Terrace in Charlemont.
Trooper Olari found the suspect outside who matched the description of the bank robber. Additional troopers helped detained and arrest the suspect and turned him over to the Northampton Police.
A K-9 unit from the Easthampton Police Department, Northampton Police detectives and Troopers from the State Police Detective Unit for Franklin/Hampshire Counties assisted in the incident.
