Northampton Police to begin underage alcohol compliance checks

Hampshire County

Northampton Police are actively taking steps to prevent underage drinking.

Over the next month, police will be making compliance checks to make sure licensed establishments aren’t serving to underage customers.

The police will be working with the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission and the Northampton Prevention Coalition, to check every licensed spot in town.

“There’s so much at stake now with the liquor laws and the penalties and so much more awareness about people drinking and driving,” said Bill Spear of Northampton. “If they do not card people, they can get in some pretty serious trouble.”

Serving alcohol to someone under 21 can result in fines, and suspension, or even revocation of their liquor license.
