Two bodies were found in a Northampton apartment building Thursday morning.
Come Thursday evening, the Hampshire County District Attorney’s office had still only released limited information, and the two people had not been identified.
Police tape surrounded part of one of the buildings in the Villages at Hospital Hill apartments where two people were found dead Thursday morning.
Northampton Police officers, State Police, and a crime scene services van were there for hours looking into what happened.
While some area residents were shocked, one man said incidents like this can happen anywhere.
Donald O’Brien, who lives in the Leeds section of Northampton, said “I think anything like that can happen in any community. Northampton has a very good reputation for being an excellent community. It could happen next door. I live in Leeds, a small town. Could happen there, unfortunately. Hopefully, it never will.”
But this wasn’t the only tragedy to hit Northampton Thursday morning.
One person was killed in a house fire on Carolyn Street in the Florence section of the city.
William McGrath, a former Northampton resident who moved to Whately said, “It seems like it’s more commonplace around here, unfortunately, I mean just between general accidents. I mean like woods stoves, chimneys, overseen* proper maintenance, and just things can happen.”
The state Fire Marshall’s Office is looking into the cause of the deadly house fire.
No identity released on any of these victims.
The DA’s Office in Hampshire County said there is no threat to the public as Northampton and State Police still look into what led up to those deaths.
