Over 1,000 run to support the Amherst Survival Center at annual UMass 5K Dash & Dine

Hampshire County

A Hampshire county charity received a financial boost at the University of Massachusetts campus Saturday.

It was the day of the Dash & Dine, so called because the annual 5K traditionally begins at the Hampden dining commons and ends at the Berkshire dining commons, both of which are in the Southwest Residential complex.

“We have over a thousand runners out here today,” said Garett Distefano, UMass residential dining director. “It’s kind of a chilly day but it’s for a good cause. Over the past nine years, we’ve raised over $40,000 for the organization.”

Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis and Danny New, co-host of the 22News daily lifestyle program “Mass Appeal” served as the masters of ceremony.
