Amherst fire officials told 22News police requested the fire department’s backup during an investigation at an apartment on 81 Belchertown Road around 7:30 p.m.
As of 10:10 p.m., Fire Chief Tim Nelson says the Hazmat team and police are still actively at the location for the “potential hazmat” situation.
Chief Nelson told 22News the situation poses no threat to the public and that there are no injuries.
