Red Cross blood donation drive held in Hadley

Summer is a crucial time to give the gift of life.

The Red Cross typically sees a shortage of blood donors during the summer months. On Tuesday, they hosted a blood drive at the Hampshire Mall in Hadley.

22News spoke with two long-time donors who try to give blood every chance they get.

“It’s essential, it’s life-giving and the world is good people and you try to take care of good people and this is a thing I can do so I do,” said Ben Bensen of Deerfield.

David Makinster of Hadley told 22News, “It’s painless, it’s quick. The people are very nice, there are snacks. I’m a vegan but even I can find something to eat.”

The blood donation process takes about an hour, with the actual donation only taking about 10 minutes.
