Congressman Jim Mcgovern stopped by Crocker Farm Elementary in Amherst on Wednesday to speak with students.
Mcgovern met with first-grade students and fielded questions. Several weeks ago, many of the students wrote letters to McGovern about climate change and a parent asked the Congressman if he could speak to her daughter’s class.
So, after reading a quick book, he answered questions about what he does and how important it is for young students to have a voice.
“I think it’s so empowering and so important to show our young people that, not only is their opinion valued but their opinion is needed,” parent Gazit Chaya Nkosi told 22News. “That’s part of being part of our community and a part of our democracy.”
Congressman McGovern thanked the students for the letter, and the opportunity to come and speak with them. He said he likes going around to different schools in the area and teaching students that they have a voice.
