HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Route 9 in Hadley was closed after a 13-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning.

According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Spokesperson Laurie Loisel, at around 7:30 a.m. a boy was struck crossing at a crosswalk near the Hampshire Juvenile Court. He was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries. Loisel said on Wednesday the boy remains in the hospital for his injuries.

Police are asking for the public’s help with information about the driver of a white van that took off. The police believe the van may possibly be a 2004 Ford Econoline model with damage to its right front quarter as well as the passenger side window area.

The van was traveling westbound on Route 9 towards Northampton from Amherst before the collision. The driver and the van are unknown at this time.
