HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Another Sears store plans to close by next year — and it’s right here in western Massachusetts.
The Sears Hometown store on Route 9 in Hadley is closing but it might not be closing for good. The store is currently having a liquidation sale, with everything 20 to 30 percent off.
The store is independently owned and will shut its doors sometime in the second week of January. Store officials said the Route 9 location is doing poorly, but they hope to reopen the store at a new location. That location has yet to be determined.
“Currently we are just trying to find a more accessible location for the Massachusetts population,” sales associate Cody Hanlon said. “Hopefully somewhere off the highways or the Mass Pike. We’re not getting too much around here right now.”
Dozens of Sears stores across Massachusetts have closed throughout the last year. In October, the company filed for bankruptcy and announced that it would be closing an additional 142 stores nationwide.
The Sears Hometown Store hopes to have an exact location sometime early next year.
