South Hadley approves funding for new dog park

Hampshire County

South Hadley residents are closer to getting a dog park in town.

It’s not set in stone yet, but a dog park is close to becoming a reality in South Hadley. The town approved a $25,000 grant last Wednesday at a special town meeting.

That money will help design the park.

The proposed 3-acre dog park would be built on Mulligan Drive, leading to The Ledges Golf Club. The town is now waiting to get a Stanton Foundation Grant to help finance the dog park.

It will be owned by the town but operated by the non-profit organization Friends of South Hadley Dog Park.

Michael Sullivan, the town’s administrator told 22News the town is growing, “It’s another recreational aspect of South Hadley. We tried to expand with bike walk, we certainly have the ledges and other recreational amenities but the socialization of dogs and dog owners is something that’s growing.”

The dog park would be built in an open field before you get to Ledgers golf course.

Sullivan told 22News if all the grants go through, he hopes to have the park open by next summer.
