South Hadley looking to monitor Buttery Brook’s water quality

Hampshire County

The Town of South Hadley is looking to clean up the stream at Buttery Brook Park and they need your help.

Stream Team volunteers will receive training on how to conduct a stream survey and technical support.

Currently, the stream is closed to the public due to E. coli bacteria that have been identified along the stream corridor in past sampling rounds.

“There’s signs down there that say, ‘no swimming. no playing,'” Mario Oliveira said. “So we know it’s bad.”

The stream assessment will be conducted at the end of August.

Buttery Brook is located in the southwestern corner of South Hadley and joins the Connecticut River in South Hadley Falls on the south side of the Route 116 Veterans Memorial Bridge.

People interested in becoming a Stream Team volunteer should contact the South Hadley Planning and Conservation Department at (413) 538-5017 ext. 208, or email conservation@southhadleyma.gov.
