NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Earth Day is next Monday, April 22nd. Each year the students and other organizations showcase the sustainability projects they are working on.

The UMass Earth Day Festival took place on Goodell Lawn. The festival is held to raise awareness on what people can do to be more environmentally friendly.

“We’re talking to students specifically on how they can reduce their food waste in their dorms, in their houses, their lives,” said Morgan Laner, Center for EcoTechnology of Northampton. “So we have a couple of setups on how students can do that through composting, through vermicomposting.”

In addition vegetables from the UMass student garden, people attending the festival could also enjoy people-powered blender bike smoothies.

This year the Earth Day Network’s global campaign is Protect our Species.
