The sixth annual Student Iron Chef Competition was hosted by UMass Dining Saturday night.
The competition was based on flavor, plate representation, culinary technique and how each team personalized the meal.
Director of Dining Services at UMass said what makes this competition special is none of the competitors are culinary students.
Competitor Emma Khazzam told 22News, “It was just such an amazing time to work together as a team and work with the chefs and put all of our creativity and science backgrounds into making the food delicious and amazing.”
UMass came in second place against four Canadian schools. All three judges were from western Massachusetts, including Mass Appeal’s Danny New, as the celebrity judge.
The annual Student Iron Chef Competition is a round-robin event, meaning UMass will not host the event for another five years.
