The UMass Amherst hockey team wants to make sure families don’t go hungry this Thanksgiving.
The team collected non-perishable food donations at Sunday’s game against New Hampshire.
All donations will be delivered to Amherst Survival Center — which connects residents of Hampshire and Franklin Counties to food, clothing, and healthcare.
“We gave fans the opportunity to get $2 off tickets who showed up with non-perishable food items. As you can see with the cornucopia behind us they came out in droves,” UMass athletic director Alan Pandiani told 22News. “It was really exciting to see the community get behind a program that they are already supporting.”
Later this month, the team will visit elementary schools in Amherst and Hadley and read to local students.
The Minutemen won the game 4-2.
