Ware police train first-time gun owners at public shooting event in Palmer

Hampshire County

The Ware Police Department held a “public shoot” to teach firearms safety Wednesday night.

A live fire exercise was part of Wednesday’s Public Shoot Night at the Sportsmen’s Club in Palmer.

Recognizing that more people are owning firearms for personal protection, the Ware Police Department wants to make sure legal gun owners know how to engage their safety, and know how to safely shoot and store their guns.

“If citizens are gonna have a firearm in their house, I think it’s important that they know how to use them, and safe handling practices are key,” said Sgt. Chris DeSantis, certified firearms instructor for the Ware Police Department.

Sgt. DeSantis said this was their first “shoot night,” which was geared to first-time gun-owners and shooters.

It’s free and open to Ware residents who legally own firearms.
