SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s Cyber Monday– a day when many will shop online for deals.
The National Retail federation reports that almost 50 percent of Americans plan to shop online Monday, whether it’s on a computer or a phone.
Cyber Monday allows shoppers to avoid long lines, crowds, and congested parking lots while searching for the perfect gift. It’s the second busiest shopping day of the year right behind last week’s Black Friday.
Criminals also take advantage of Cyber Monday, however, stealing packages off door steps.
According to Business Wire, more than 11 million people had packages stolen from their door steps last year.
There are ways to protect your packages. Many delivery services let you personalize where you want your package to be left. If you don”t want it to be visible from the street, you can ask for it to be dropped off at a side or a back door. You can also have the package delivered to your work.
Shoppers can also receive a tracking number once a package ships.
