SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – A ribbon cutting was held Friday morning for the new $21 Million Culinary and Nutrition Center in Springfield.

Sodexo is opening a 62,000-square-foot facility on Cadwell Drive that will prepare and provide meals to more than 30,000 Springfield students every day.  

The ribbon cutting was held by Springfield representatives, Springfield Public Schools, and the school system’s food service provider, Sodexo. 

“The most exciting thing about this is definitely the opportunity that will come out of this,” said Tamya Romero, a senior at Putnam Vocational Technical Academy. “I know this will be the biggest, a very big and important this will last for a long, long time.”

The home-grown Springfield brand is a culinary program that was created by the Putnam Design and Visual Arts Department. Approximately 72 students participated in the design process to help Springfield Public Schools and Sodexo name the program. A senior at the school, Romero created the winning logo design that was at the ribbon cutting.  

A performance by the Sci-Tech Band was held at the ribbon cutting and a presentation from Putnam Vocational-Technical Academy’s ROTC program was also held. 

People were also able to tour the facility after the ceremony.  

The facility is located on 75 Cadwell Drive in Springfield.
