AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – A big part of Earth Day is promoting natural growth around your community.

PeoplesBank locations in Amherst, Holyoke, Suffield, and West Hartford will be equipping people with gardening kits for free Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. They come with tomato plants, garden seed packets, and tools to plant them.

The Senior Vice President of Marketing told 22News… sustainability is a big priority for PeoplesBank…

“Over the last couple of years I think people have come to appreciate local, and local food a lot more, and so this is a step in that direction. We also have gardening kits for kids today so they can start to garden. I don’t think a lot of people realize that tomatoes don’t come in saran wrap at the supermarket they come from the ground and the earth, so this is a nice way for us to boost green but also boost local food, and the local marketplace as well.” Matthew Bannister, Senior Vice President, marketing

The gardening giveaway rotates between different PeoplesBank branches every year.
