SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield's Franconia Golf course has a new snack shack along with improved women's restroom facilities.
Carpentry students from Putnam Vocational Academy will have the snack shack ready for the weekend.
The Putnam students have been tackling municipal construction projects to improve their proficiency as well as their sense of pride.
Tyasia James, a student at Putnam Vocational Academy said of working on the project, "it brings so much happiness and makes the community better." Another student, Jason Cole said, "it's a strong sense of pride, you had nothing before, now you build up a whole room and it will always be there."
By putting their carpentry skills to work, the students helped the city's Parks Department save $40,000, money that the city didn't have in its budget.
