It was a nerve-racking AFC Championship game for the New England Patriots nation. But in the end, it was the Patriots who advanced to yet another Super Bowl.

The Patriots victory over the Kansas City Chiefs did not come easy. The Pats went up 14-0 in the first half, but the Chiefs stormed back in the second half, pushing the game into overtime with a field goal.

After winning the coin flip, Tom Brady led the Patriots down the field with some clutch third down passes. But it was running back Rex Burkhead who scored the winning touchdown sending the Patriots to the Super Bowl.

Local Pats fans went to Dick’s Sporting Goods in West Springfield on Monday morning to pick up their AFC Championship gear.

“Unbelievable, I just couldn’t believe it,” Gary Tomesic told 22News. “But like I said, if they just kept control of the ball, they’d move all the way down the field.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods was already all sold out of Patriots AFC title hats by noon on Monday, but they still had plenty of men’s and women’s AFC championship shirts.

The Patriots will face the LA Rams in Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, Sunday, February 3.

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
