Local shoppers prepare for possible winter storm

News

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Shoppers raided the Big Y in Chicopee, for last minute items, as western Massachusetts braced for a winter storm that could dump up to 8 inches of snow.

Customers stocked up on all their emergency preparedness supplies, like bread, water, milk and comfort food.

Gerry Darcy, a Big Y employee, told 22News the store ordered more items just for this storm; “Yeah, we’re consistently monitoring the weather. We realized that people are shopping early, we’ll order extra and try to have it on hand and it works out for us.”

Big Y said the store is the busiest in the evening between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., right after work. They also said, the best time to shop is early in the morning.
