Lorraine’s Kitchen prepares for increased demand of food assistance

News

The demands on western Massachusetts food panties will grow considerably once the school year ends later this month.

Lorraine’s Kitchen in Chicopee will need more cash donations from its donors. The agency will use the money to buy large quantities of food from the Food Bank of western Massachusetts.

“In Chicopee, they have the free lunch program so most of the parents are able to rely on the schools feeding their children. And once school is over, they’re responsible for feeding them,” Andrea Marion explained. “And we have to help them out once that need happens.”

The responsibility of Lorraine’s Kitchen to provide food for these families in need increases each summer by 15 percent.
