Low number license plate lottery drawing scheduled for Thursday night

The Registrar of Motor Vehicles will host the annual low number license plate lottery Thursday evening.

MassDOT announced on Wednesday that the September 6 event will begin at 8 p.m. on WBZ AM 1030.

All available plates will be drawn Thursday night and applicants can listen to the drawing by tuning in to AM 1030 or by clicking here.

According to MassDOT, 11,477 low number plate lottery applications have been submitted for 201 eligible plates this year. Some of this year’s low plate characters are 1400, 2558, 4J, Y4, 55Z, 77V, and Z81.

In 2017, the RMV received over 11,000 applications for 162 plates.

Entries for this year’s lottery were due by August 28, to be eligible for drawing.

It’s free to apply and once a winner is picked, a fee will be charged to receive the license plate. There is also a standard registration fee.

Low number plates must be renewed every two years.
