Ludlow man accused of fighting with police

News

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Ludlow with an “extensive criminal record” was arrested, last Friday night, after attempting to run away from police, and then allegedly fighting with them.

According to Ludlow Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas, around 10:45 p.m. Friday, two officers went to a home on Vienna Avenue for a welfare check on a woman. When the officers arrived, the woman claimed her boyfriend locked her out of the home after a “verbal” argument.

The officers then tried to speak with the boyfriend, 47-year-old Leif J. Wakefield of Ludlow, through one of the windows. Sgt. Valadas said Wakefield was violent from the start, and “physically assaulted” the officers as he tried to get away.

Sgt. Valadas said the officers caught Wakefield in the backyard of the home, but he allegedly continued to fight with them until he was handcuffed. Wakefield was then taken to the Ludlow Police Department for booking.

Wakefield was charged with the following:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault & Battery on a Police Officer (2 Counts)

He was released on $40 cash bail with a Palmer Court date.
