Man allegedly made bomb threat outside White House

News

WASHINGTON (WWLP) – The North Fence Line of the White House was temporarily closed Friday as law enforcement units searched for explosives.

According to a U.S. Secret Service news release, 33-year-old Ervin Pettaway walked up to an officer Friday morning and said he had “dropped explosives.”

The man was taken into custody immediately, and all pedestrian and car traffic was cleared from the area.

No explosives were found after a search by Secret Service police dogs and the state police explosives unit. The team sweeping the area did find the suspect’s cell phone on the ground.

Pettaway was charged with one count of felony threats.

The president left for Asia Friday morning.
