SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are investigating a homicide in Springfield after a man was found dead in a car Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that 28-year-old Yonaides Pichardo was found shot dead in the drivers seat of a BMW sedan, with Connecticut license plates, parked near 55 Sycamore Street. The victim had received a single gunshot wound. The two passenger side windows of the sedan appeared to be shattered.

Sycamore Street resident Glen Fay gave a statement to police about what he saw the night before; “A second car pulled up in the other side of the street. Two guys got out and got in the car with him. They were there for about five minutes, but I didn’t hear anything.”

The Springfield Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the deadly shooting. Police blocked-off a section of Sycamore Street while they conduct their investigation. The body was removed from the site just before 5:00 p.m.

No suspects have been arrested, and the motive is still under investigation.

Springfield mayor Domenic Sarno came to the neighborhood to speak with neighbors soon after evidence was cleared.
