HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Holyoke High School gymnasium was filled with high spirited cheerleaders Saturday from all over Massachusetts.
The young women displayed the form and technique they were trained for to spur on a variety of their schools’ athletic teams.
They were also supported by their parents who filled the stands to cheer them on. Chicopee parent Michelle Whitman said, “Anything for our children, whatever they want to do. If you’re going to a cheer competition, you’re going to a cheer competition.”
The proud parents, some of whom had been high school cheerleaders themselves, urged the public to take their daughters seriously for their athletic skills. The parents said they’re pleased perceptions have changed, and more people now admire the girls for their athletic skills.
