BOSTON (WWLP) – Two economic development projects in western Massachusetts have been approved for state funding.
The Commonwealths Economic Assistance Coordinating Council (EACC) approved seven cities for projects that consider the Economic Development Incentive Program (EDIP). Pittsfield and Chicopee are part of the seven cities to receive projects for EDIP.
In Pittsfield, money will help SolaBlock, Inc. create a final assembly plant for its Solar Masonry Units which essentially are solar panels embedded in blocks used for construction. The company is to create 17 new full-time jobs and retain four full-time employees. SolaBlock plans to have a private investment of $625,000. Pittsfield is to approve a five-year Tax Increment Financing (TIF) of $35,910. EACC approved EDIP investment tax credits for $170,000.
In Chicopee, funds will go toward building a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility called Agilent Technologies. The plastics plant would bring 40 new full-time jobs to the city and retain 86 full-time employees. A private investment of $33.25 million is to be made by Agilent. Chicopee approved a 15-year TIF of $2.6 million.
