Are Black Friday deals really worth the wait?

Black Friday shopping has just about become a national holiday.

But are the deals really that good that they’re worth skipping your turkey to hang out in line?

Black Friday brings the sounds of savings for customers and the sound of profit for business.

But just how much are customers really saving?

It’s been a day to get great deals for decades, but with online shopping and Cyber Monday, you don’t have to drive to get the deals.

In places like Kohl’s you no longer have to do your shopping in store on Black Friday to get the deals. You can shop online and just be here on Black Friday to pick up your purchase.

“What a lot of people are doing is online shopping, we’ve got in store pickup,” said James Estell, a supervisor at Kohl’s, told 22News. “So they do a lot of what we call ‘Bopis’ orders, where they’ll shop the items online and then they’ll come in the store and that’s when they’ll pick up the orders.”

“Bopis” stands for buy online pick up in store.

In Massachusetts, it’s illegal for stores to open on Thanksgiving, but just over the state line in Enfield, some shoppers spend all Thanksgiving Day in line hoping to grab a door prize.

The Enfield Best Buy’s doors will open at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving, while back in western Massachusetts, the West Springfield Kohl’s opens at midnight, and the Walmart on Boston Road in Springfield opens at 1 a.m., on Black Friday.

As for the hottest deals, well, it depends what you’re shopping for.

“So some of our best items this year, we have Walmart exclusives and special buys,” said Andy Zeyen, store manager at Walmart. “Probably one of the best rollbacks is the Tickle Me Elmo, which was $28.88 for $14.88, some of the more popular is the LOL Surprise at $189.”

We scoured the Black Friday catalogs to find some of the best deals for you and here’s what we found:

  • PlayStation 4: Walmart, Target and Best Buy are all offering it for $200 – that’s $160 savings
  • TV’s: Target is offering a 55 inch smart TV’s for $350 – that’s $100 off
  • The doorbuster at Best Buy is a 70″ smart TV for $699 – that’s 300 off
  • Kohl’s has doorbusters like an instant pot for $69.99 – half-price
  • A diamond bracelet originally $305 also for $69.99

Our best advice is to go in with a game plan, a lot of these stores advertise the items they’ll have on sale come Friday.

This way you won’t be surprised if you get there and the item you wanted is not on sale!
