The average price of gas in Massachusetts is the lowest it’s been in 18 months.
According to AAA Northeast, self-serve, regular gas is now selling for an average of $2.34 per gallon. That amount is 22 cents less than last year’s average of $2.56.
According to the Energy Information Administration, the price drop in gas is driven by the price drop in oil.
One Florence resident said he noticed the price drop on his way to work this morning.
“Lower gas prices mean I can drive that much further for that much cheaper and more of my bills get paid,” said Marc Saulnier.
This price drop comes at a good time following a summer where gas prices were at a four-year high.
According to AAA, the current Massachusetts price is still seven cents more than the national average.
AAA’s latest survey found a wide range of prices for regular gas across the nation, from a low of $2.15 to a high of $3.05 per gallon.
