(WPRI) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Homicide Unit prosecutors and the Dartmouth Police are investigating a homicide that happened in Dartmouth Saturday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., police received a 911 call from the night manager at the Regency Hotel on Faunce Corner Road. The caller said that there was a man bleeding heavily inside a car in the hotel’s back parking lot.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the victim, later identified as Joseph Tavares, 37, of Fall River, sitting unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead about a half hour later.

The manager at the hotel told police he was alerted to the vehicle after a hotel guest said they heard loud thuds and breaking glass coming from the rear parking lot.

Right now, police are still looking for a suspect and the incident remains under investigation.
