Cell service a major issue for officials on Cape Cod

Massachusetts

Two shark attacks on Cape Cod this summer are underscoring the need for better cell service at some of the region’s most secluded beaches.

Local officials said the issue is among their top priorities as they prepare to gather later this week in the aftermath of the attacks.

Beachgoers and rescuers reportedly had trouble calling 911 after the attacks, one in Truro last month, and one in which a man was killed by a shark in Wellfleet this past weekend.

Officials are exploring options ranging from building more cell towers to installing emergency call boxes.
