WORCESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – Fed up with illegal dumping, the City of Worcester says they’ll soon publish names of confirmed offenders to try and combat the issue.
Worcester uses hidden camera’s to take pictures of the violators, a practice already being used here in Springfield.
22News spoke to Springfield’s director of parks and recreation about how the candid camera program works.
“Mayor Sarno gave us the resources to use about four years ago to put camera at different sites across the city,” Patrick Sullivan said. “We’ve moved them around, so you never know where they’re going to be installed, and we’ve been successful between code enforcement and the police department catching people dumping in the city.”
Worcester’s city manager says people who illegally dump items will be subjected to large fines and possible embarrassment from the upcoming “shaming campaign.”
