Coin honoring Lowell National Historical Park launched

You can now find a piece of Massachusetts history in pockets across the country.

The United States Mint Wednesday officially launched the America the Beautiful Quarters Program with a coin honoring Lowell National Historical Park.

The coin shows a mill girl working at a power loom, with the city skyline and a clock tower behind her.

Mill girls made up of the majority of the Lowell Mill workforce and became an important voice for labor by advocating for better working conditions and embracing education.

The Lowell National Historical Park was established in 1978 to preserve the role of Lowell in the Industrial Revolution.
