(WPRI) — A local fisherman was rescued by members of the New Bedford Fire Department after he was injured in a fall into the below-deck area of a fishing vessel.

The incident took place Monday at Leonard’s Wharf, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Officials said despite some challenges, including the vessel being double-docked, the crew of Ladder 3 was able to pull the fisherman to safety so paramedics could then render aid.

The department also thanked New Bedford Detective Paul Fonseca for his assistance during the rescue.
