The first legal recreational marijuana shop in eastern Massachusetts opened its doors Saturday.
“There’s a whole bunch of different things on the menu.”
Salem City Councilor Josh Turiel has a big decision to make, he was the ceremonial first ever customer at the first recreational pot store in eastern Massachusetts.
He hadn’t smoke marijuana since the late 80’s.
“Not gonna make you fall asleep. Not gonna give you too much of a head high.”
He went with a vaporizer cartridge and a joint.
“Ok you’re all set. Thank you very much. You’re welcome. have a good one.”
“I’m buying one, quote unquote pre roll which is what they call it right pre roll. I’m buying one pre roll as a souvenir and then I’m gonna buy something to consume myself because…why not?” Josh Turiel
He was the first customer but certainly not the last. There was a long line of regular customers who are required to make an appointment first.
Christopher Holland was at the front of that line and very excited. “I just wanted to make a legal purchase of marijuana. I moved out here shortly before the vote. I voted yes to legalize marijuana in the state of Massachusetts and right now this is I guess the reward for that.” Christopher Holland
Alternative Therapies Group had already been operation in Salem as a medical marijuana facility. But now, a new chapter has been written. Staffers say making that first ever sale was exciting.
“It was cool! It was a moment. It was amazing. I feel like it was part of history. It was a moment of history in this company.” Kate Nelson
